Business organization
03 — Areas of expertise
Figures are there to support decisions, not to report the past.
Many companies have accurate accounting data and very little information they can actually decide on. Financial statements say what happened; they do not say which product carries a real margin, what a client costs, or which part of the business is subsidising the rest.
Closing that gap does not necessarily require complex systems. It requires deciding what needs to be known, and how often.
Where I work
- Design of management control systems, proportionate to the size of the business
- Margin analysis by product, project, client or business line
- Budgeting and periodic variance analysis
- Cash flow analysis and forecasting
- Organisational, administrative and accounting structures appropriate to the nature and size of the business
- Support to entrepreneurs and management in decisions that require quantitative grounding
How I work
I am wary of tools nobody will use. I would rather have a handful of measures the entrepreneur actually looks at every month than a complete dashboard that will be abandoned within the first quarter.
